President Masayoshi Funahashi said, “There have been events which shook the foundation of this company, throughout the years, and the way people work and live has changed. However, the challenges of making stamp pads were not even comparable to how they are now.” No matter when, the act of stamping the corners of paper or digital documents is ever present. “Although it is a niche market, we have built the brand up to where people think of Shachihata when they think of stamps. We would like to keep it that way.” We sincerely wish for your further prosperity in the next 100 years.

The 100 years of Shachihata history closely coincides with the history of the Showa Era, which started in 1926. The founder, Kinzo Funahashi, and his brother, Takaji worked tirelessly to revive the company after the war. This combined effort in “manufacturing” and “expansion” symbolises the history of Shachihata’s 100 years. They began sales in Okinawa, which was not yet returned to Japan, and established overseas bases in Los Angeles to set the foundation for U.S. distribution. It is famously known that they then broadened their global business to the world through successful expansions in Europe. I still remember when President Shinkichiro and his wife tirelessly stood at their booth every day, at the Messe Frankfurt trade fair.

Starting with stamp pads, evolving through pre-inked name stamps, and now expanding into the digital realm, I have great expectations for Shachihata as it continues to pursue its core identity of "marking" while exploring new frontiers. I have been given the opportunity to work as a judge at the Shachihata New Product Design Competition for 7 years. Seeing the elation in the faces of the Shachihata staff when discussing the ins-and-outs of the various final-round items will always remain in my memory. There are very few hosts that conduct events with such passion and enthusiasm. I hope that your curiosity and passion for manufacturing persists, and I hope that you continue to flourish for another 100 years.

As Japan modernised, documentation changed drastically. As a company which was born in such an era, you have supported the Japanese documentation style with innovative products, been authentication to countless decisions, and produced stamps for 100 years. Your establishment has most likely inscribed the largest number of Japanese names, and have been witness to the largest number of agreements and choices. Now, in this tumultuous time, we hope that your company’s products will not only continue to be used in business documents, but also a symbol for our wills and feelings.

Congratulations on your 100th anniversary. Starting with Name9, it felt natural to always have your products by my side. I am always amazed by the new products with fresh ideas you develop, and they have brought me lots of joy. The PETATTI for cats and dogs was used for recording the growth of my beloved cat, and the Jikakeru was used with masking tape. Various other products developed by you enrich my daily life. I am looking forward to the future development of many more products that support the daily lives of customers.

I was asked to make some congratulatory remarks and was wondering what to write. Then I started thinking, “What was my first Shachihata product?” I remembered. It was the first generation Name Pen. I was rummaging through my father’s pen case and happened upon a thick and curious pen. The lid fell off as I was toying with it, and thought, “A stamp!?” I still remember being amazed as a child by how seamlessly integrated and well-thought-out Shachihata’s tools were—truly a clever creation for working professionals. Since then, I have always associated Shachihata with a company that not only makes stamps but also creates smart and thoughtful tools. As you step into the next 100 years, I hope you continue to produce innovative and practical tools just as you always have. Congratulations on your 100th anniversary!

Your company has supported the provision of “signs” for 100 years, in this ever-changing world.
